Caroline Bancroft was born in England in 1947 where she studied art and pottery at Winchester before teaching art. In 1974, as Caroline K. Jackson, she moved with her family first to Dubai and then to Sharjah. In both Emirates she held several exhibitions which culminated in a sponsored exhibition at the Dubai Intercontinental Hotel.
Caroline was a founder member of the Dubai Arts Society, now known as Dubai International Arts Centre. She undertook many commissions, for example for the Dubai Museum, the Toronto Dominion Bank and Barclays Bank as well as a number of portraits and pictures of local life. Her work has been purchased by private collectors in the Emirates, France, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the U.K. and the U.S.A.
In 1981 she returned to England where she resumed her art teaching career. She has also undertaken work for the Moscow City Archives Department, drawing the artefacts found on an important archaeological site in the centre of Moscow. Additionally, she has exhibited work with the Marlborough Art Society & the Sherborne Art Society and is currently in negotiation with a gallery in France, where she now lives.
2009 saw the publication of her book, "The Desert Knows Me Well . . .", by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH). This is a collection of pen and ink drawings of scenes from the Emirates (accompanied by extracts from classic Arabian poetry). The drawings were originally created in 1979 and remained unpublished until 2009.
