In 1979 I wrote the following after completing this work and dreaming of publishing it.
"Arabia is rich, not only in oil but in her history and literature. Her emergence into the modern world has been so rapid, however, that it is perhaps too easy to lose sight of her fascinating heritage, to find it obscured behind the skyscrapers, television and the fast pace of modern living. To keep a sense of history alive is a continually enriching experience, for we can learn much from our past.
"None of the poets whose work I have used is living today and a number date back to the sixth century, but their philosophies show a simplicity and wisdom which time has not altered.
"For seven years it was my privilege to live in the United Arab Emirates, and in the pages that follow I have tried hard to record my appreciation of the rich historical background of this fascinating country and her unique people. I would like to thank the Arab people for the warmth and hospitality they have shown me and for the inspiration their land and culture has given me."
30 years after the drawings were completed, Caroline's book of pen and ink drawings with associated researched Arabic Poetry was published by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage in 2009.
The book launch and signing took place at the International Book Festival, The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in March 2009
